Why Small Businesses Matter in Ridgefield: Nu

Why small businesses matter

Buy small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter showcases local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods and services for the betterment of our community. The local store movement is going viral as local ‘tagged’ businesses get a chance to share their stories!

You are IT Nu, LLC – Expert Nutrition Services!

Four questions with Meg Whitbeck, co-founder of Nu, Expert Nutrition Services.

Why did you start your business?

We started Nu because there is a great need for nutrition education and counseling in Fairfield County and a lack of easily accessible dietitians. As established practitioners in our area, we were ready to incorporate and hang our own shingles!

What is your best-selling product / service?

Our 1: 1 nutritional counseling and education sessions are the most popular. We deliver them via telehealth and in person at our new offices in the heart of Ridgefield. We have indoor and outdoor spaces to meet our clients, which has been wonderful as we all get used to post-COVID life. No matter how our clients want to meet, we have that option.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

The wonderful thing about this community is that there is no shortage of support and resources when it comes to small businesses. We did print at Squash, are currently working with Marge Maida from Maida Design, consulted Kate Fitzpatrick from Kate Fitzpatrick consultant with a plethora of questions on social media, and ran in and out of Ridgefield Hardware as we were moving our store into our new office space in Steve Zemo’s incredible space at 100B Danbury Road.

Have you “reimagined” your small business?

We think so. And we think we’re in the middle of another re-imagining right now! We launched Nu in 2020 at the height of the COVID pandemic. It was a crazy time to start a business, but we were needed. Instead of starting with a brick and mortar office space on day one, we launched a virtual-only practice. It was foreign to us! Now that we are opening our new Nu office space, we are adapting to this new location and working with our clients in person again (which we LOVE)!

Meg would like to name a few more companies to present next – Marge Maida from Maida Design, Dr. Betsy Pulick from Ridgefield Sports Medicine and Patrick Buckley from Dynamic Edge PT!
