Assembly meals are served at the Dare County Center in Manteo promptly at noon Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), giving seniors the opportunity to socialize with others while enjoying a nutritionally balanced meal. . If you would like to participate in the collective nutrition program, you will need to call Dare County Center at 252-475-9279 at least 48 hours in advance to order your meal. The Dare County Center also offers home meals for homebound seniors residing in Manteo and Wanchese.

the Baum Seniors Center at Kill Devil Hills also offers in-home dining for housebound seniors on the beach who are at least 60 years old and unable to cook or participate in the group meal program at Dare County Center in Manteo. The Baum Senior Center delivers meals to residents of Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head and Kitty Hawk.

Throughout March 2021, Meals on Wheels America called on elected officials to deliver meals to housebound customers in an effort to raise awareness of the issues of hunger and isolation of the elderly in their own communities.

Participants in the local March for Meals 2021 program included Dare County Commissioners Deputy Chairman Wally Overman, Dare County Commissioners Rob Ross and Ervin Bateman.

You can volunteer one day a month for about an hour, or you can volunteer to deliver meals several times a month. It’s a great way to help those in need across the Dare County community, and it’s a very rewarding experience.
