COVID -19 Billings Public Schools Nutrition Services Emergency Food Plan | Top story

UPDATE Billings Public Schools: Governor Bullock has ordered Montana’s Kindergarten to Grade 12 public schools to close from tomorrow, March 16 through March 27. During this time, schools will commit to planning arrangements to provide free meals to students who need them, in accordance with a waiver obtained from the United States Department of Agriculture, and to meet all other matters and services that students need in the event of a future or current shutdown. Schools will continue to receive all state funding during this two-week shutdown.


Modified plan of current operations

As of Monday, March 16, not all venues will offer self-service salad bars. All fruits and vegetables will be served by the nutrition staff. Between classes, areas will be cleaned and disinfected, including point-of-sale keypads, condiment stations, and service areas. All employees will continue to follow all Sodexo procedures for personal hygiene, hand washing and HACCP protocols.

In the event of total closure of the District:

  • Nutrition Services will complement the USDA / OPI Non-Congregational Waiver. Serving sites must be approved SFSP sites. (the three identified are approved)
  • Breakfast and lunch will be offered as “take out”.
  • Nutrition Services will operate the meal service at a curbside kiosk for parents / students to drive and receive meals. All children aged 0-18 can receive free meals.

The following sites will be open for meal pickup at the following times:

stone castle

1441, boulevard des Gouverneurs

Breakfast: 7.45 a.m. – 8.30 a.m.

Lunch: 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Riverside

3700 Madison

Breakfast: 7.45 a.m. – 8.30 a.m.

Lunch: 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Lewis and Clark

1315 Lewis Avenue

Breakfast: 7.45 a.m. – 8.30 a.m.

Lunch: 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Communication:

  • Menus and service updates will be posted on the Billings Public Schools Nutrition Services web page.
  • If the shutdown continues, we will assess attendance and may need to adjust locations and / or deliveries.
  • All changes will be communicated on the sites and on our website.

  • ** Backpack meals will be distributed to refreshment sites to be picked up for weekend meal coverage.

Operations:

  • Sysco, Franz, Meadow Golden Milk will be delivered by vendors as needed.
  • The endowment will follow the Union seniority scale. All other employees will be placed on temporary unit closure.
  • Staffing schedules will be posted by the Director of Operations once needs have been determined.
  • District goods will be delivered weekly from the district warehouse.
