CCDS Nutrition Services to Host Career Fair, Preparing for Next School Year

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Students, faculty and staff in the Charleston County School District prepare for the first day of school on August 18 – but district leaders say they still need more staff in the nutrition department.

The CCSD Nutrition Services team will be hosting a career fair on Saturday, July 17, 9-11 a.m. in the Charleston Progressive Academy cafeteria.

The CCSD hopes to hire 60 new employees.

The vacancies are as follows:

  • Managers
  • Assistant managers
  • Permanent operators
  • Temporary operators

All participants are encouraged to bring a curriculum vitae. If you don’t have one, you can still attend and someone from the Nutrition Services Department will help you apply.

The department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals, “dedicated to the health, well-being and learning ability of students,” according to the district’s website.

After a successful summer meal program, in the midst of the pandemic, the district is hoping for a smooth transition to school.

However, officials say the summer meal program would not have been successful without the help of dedicated staff members, with the goal of providing students with well-balanced meals.

“Right now it’s pretty quiet in our office, because we know that in the streets and in the schools everything is going as smoothly as possible,” said Joe Pettit, CCSD Nutrition Services Officer. “Our team is there with a smile and is only responding to the needs of our community.”

There will be on-site interviews and even on-site hiring at the job fair.

In addition, the CCSD is offering free meals throughout the coming school year 2021-22.

As of September 2020, the district has served more than 4.5 million meals through the program – and wants parents to trust them.

“We really try to make sure that not only are we serving a free meal, but also meals that the students really love,” Pettit said. “When I was in school, school lunch was always the thing I really looked forward to, and we want to keep that tradition going.”

You have the option to pre-register for the job fair or the job fair. If you miss the event, you can still apply on the CCSD School Meals website.
